Bali Declaration signed after the 3rd Congress held by the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions in Indonesia and Joint Statement regarding the Coup Attempt in Turkey

Mr. Zühtü ARSLAN, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Turkey participated in the 3rd Congress of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) held between 9 – 12 August 2016 in Bali, Indonesia and organized under the theme of “Promotion and Protection of Citizens’ Constitutional Rights”.

Bali Declaration was signed after the Congress; with the initiative of Mr. Zühtü ARSLAN, President of the Constitutional Court, and the Turkish Delegation it was emphasized in the Declaration that “we deplore any unconstitutional and undemocratic attempts aiming to abolish the rule of law and democracy in any country” and in addition, a joint statement condemning the coup attempt in our country was prepared.

It has been stated in the statement that the Members of the AACC are in solidarity with the Turkish government and people of the Republic of Turkey on the background of what happened on the 15th July 2016, that they recognize the right of democratically elected public authorities to act vigorously for the protection of constitutional order from anti-constitutional infringements, that they deplore any unconstitutional and undemocratic attempts aiming to abolish the rule of law and democracy in any country including what recently happened in Turkey ; that they offer their sympathy to Turkey and stand ready to support in recovering the respect for the democratic principles and constitutional order.
